What do we do?

Read our parent organisation, Food Power’s report York_AllianceDev_6monthSnapshot, on everything we’ve been up to in the last 6 months!

We…  Research food poverty in York

We have completed an anonymous survey of people with primary-age children, asking about about food, access & affordability: parents from over 30 schools took part!

We held public focus groups in 3 locations across the city which gathered the views of local people about food and affordability.

The findings of these will be ready soon and will help us to form a Food Poverty Action Plan for York.

Why are we doing this?

Food is central to our well-being, our relationships and our health. But at times providing a nutritious diet for yourself and your family can be hard when food prices are high. This survey, led by the University of York and the York Food Poverty Alliance, explores families’ experiences around accessing and eating food in York.  We hope to contribute to local knowledge about food and people’s experiences around food in York. If a need for change is identified, we will set up projects to address food and affordability issues, and campaign for change to improve the lives of people in York. We’ll publish our findings here soon.

We… Help provide food for people through things like ‘Holiday Hunger’ cafes and promoting Free School Meals/Healthy Start Vouchers.

Take a look at an example timetable of Holiday Food Clubs / activity clubs over a Half-Term holiday. This shows a significant example of what can be offered by community/business/council partnerships during the holidays (click link above to download it or view here):
