We…  Research food poverty in York

Survey on food and food affordability among households with children in York

Why are we doing this?

Food is central to our well-being, our relationships and our health. But at times providing a nutritious diet for yourself and your family can be hard when food prices are high. This survey, led by the University of York and the York Food Poverty Alliance, explores families’ experiences around accessing and eating food in York.  We hope to contribute to local knowledge about food and people’s experiences around food in York. If a need for change is identified, we will set up projects to address food and affordability issues, and campaign for change to improve the lives of people in York. We’ll publish our findings here soon.

We… Show people where food aid is available in York

There are over 37 different organisations working with people in York to improve access to food. You can find out who they are and where they are on this map.

We… Help provide food for people through things like ‘Holiday Hunger’ cafes and promoting Free School Meals/Healthy Start Vouchers.

Take a look at last week’s timetable of Holiday Food Clubs / activity clubs over the Half-Term holiday. This shows a significant example of what can be offered by community/business/council partnerships during the holidays (click link above to download it or view here):
